In order to support his remarks, the elected Insoumis takes several examples, starting with that of the LFI MEP Rima Hassan or the leader of the LFI deputies in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, both heard last April by the judicial police in the context of investigations opened against them for advocating terrorism.
Strong reactions from the political class
After this shocking proposal, the convictions did not take long. Among the first to react, the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau made a post on his X account (formerly Twitter), believing that it was difficult “to do more despicable”. An opinion shared by the former president of the Republicans Éric Ciotti, who denounced a “proposed law of shame” and “further infamy of the Rebels”.

Evoking a “very serious bill”, Gabriel Attal, for his part, called, in a letter sent to the other groups of the New Popular Front, for the parties to “clearly dissociate themselves” from LFI. “A fundamental limit has been crossed: that of the respect that we owe to all victims of terrorism. Because the provisions which are targeted are precisely those which allow us today to repress the preachers of hatred who threaten our country and the values of the Republic,” added the former Prime Minister.

A condemnation heard by Olivier Faure who, on X, denounced the proposal of his left-wing allies. “It is imperative to protect public freedoms but also to protect the French from fanaticism and calls for violence and hatred,” he wrote.
Faced with the strong reactions aroused by this proposed law, the leader of the Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon denounced a “new aggression against LFI” coming from the benches of the extreme right. “Rather than making films”, the three-time presidential candidate called “to read the bill”.
