What if you became the owner of a forest in the Jura or Doubs? It could well be possible this year thanks to the auction of several plots of forest, organized by the Franche-Comté branch Fransylva, the union of private forest owners. An unprecedented sale in this area.
The purpose of this event, a little exceptional and unusual, is from “respond to requests from members who wish to part with their forests”, explains Christian Bulle, the Jura president of Fransylva. He continues: “This type of sale is a test. It has never happened before. It’s an unprecedented event”.

Several reasons are given for carrying out these sales: the age of the trees, the distance between the current owner and his plot and which, consequently, makes management of the land complicated. In total, 15 forests will be put up for sale, representing 126 hectares for a sum of one million euros. According to Christian Bulle, “there would be two forests in Haute-Saône, six in Doubs, seven in Jura”, he indicates. The smallest plot measures two hectares, while the largest up to 30 hectares.
Since 2019, the forests of the Jura massif have been hit hard by an epidemic of bark beetles, these small insects which ravage spruce trees. A situation which, once again this year, has dramatic consequences. This issue was taken into account by the association. “We will follow the plots after the purchase”, explains Christian Bulle, while reassuring that they are for the most part protected from bark beetles.
To date, potential buyers have already contacted the association, only through word of mouth. If the date is not currently known, the sale should take place during two days, during the month of December.
