By dominating Paris volleyball in four sets, Saturday November 23 in Palestra, Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne offered itself a vital victory in its race to the top of the table. But the Cévebistes nevertheless suffered throughout the meeting.
It was in a hollow Palestra that the Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne welcomed Paris, Saturday November 23. Less than a thousand spectators for a match which never reached the summits, but which nevertheless allowed the Cévebistes to add three precious points to the ranking.
The first “burst” of the game administered by the Parisian counterattack on the first Chaumont attack of the match (0-1) is only illusory for the visitors, in a start to the game that the CVB 52 negotiates much better (5- 2). And even if the Ile-de-France residents make the necessary efforts to stay in the game (9-8, then 11-10), the Cévebistes control most of the exchanges, thanks to a solid back line, effective in reception as well as in defense. Accurately relaunching all these recovered balls, CVB 52 can widen a significant first gap (15-11). Time for the locals to stop the series of services from the opposing Slovenian “sharp”, Nik Mujanovic (15-14), and the Haut-Marne domination is put back in place (18-15). A superiority that the Parisians will nevertheless never stop contesting (21-21), notably pushing their evening hosts to make mistakes, like these two “offline” attacks from Niko Suihkonen, in difficulty over his relationship with his ferryman, Joseph Worsley. But Paris definitely struggles to maintain serenity at the end of the set, like this poorly controlled reception by Bracko, who returns the ball to the Cévebiste camp for the conclusion of the set: 25-22 in 29'.
It is with full force that the Parisians resume the second act. In service and attack, the visitors decided to raise their voice, notably with the entry into play of the Argentinian Lucas Conde, very effective (5-9). The CVB 52 has largely lost its splendor and the “passenger/pointer” change, with the entries of Cheikh Diop and Nathan Lietzke only brings a slight, short-lived improvement (9-11, then 9-14). The Chaumontais no longer manage to find the slightest flaw in the net and are “bludgeoned” in reception (12-19). The end of the set is an ordeal for the locals, without solution and corrected: 17-24 in 27′.
End of set for cevébists
It is again with a few approximations that the Cévebistes resume the game in the third set (2-4). It is by finally speeding up the game that CVB 52 can regain its senses, which have been disturbed to say the least since the second round. By reducing its waste rate and regaining a certain aggressiveness, the locals are returning to the essentials: efficiency and more regularity (6-4, 13-10, then 18-15). But the Haut-Marnais have still not acquired the serenity necessary to maintain their lead. Too quickly destabilized by the opponent's success (19-19), Cheikh Diop's winning counter, in “one against one” on Bracko, is the ideal opportunity to open the way to winning the set: 25-22 in 27 ′.
The Chaumontais have definitely got into a bad habit and begin this new “round” with a few poorly controlled opposing “slaps” (5-7). The locals finally decide to raise the level of play, with a first-rate defensive organization (10-7), but the good intentions struggle to last, facing Parisians just as determined to seek valuable points for the ranking ( 14-15). It is once again on the counter that the CVB 52 will seek the “break” ball thanks to Mathis Henno on Pierre Dérouillon (18-16). The young French international will then be responsible for making the difference (22-17) to take his team to victory: 25-21 in 29 minutes.
Three points which put CVB 52 back in the top three, before its trip to Sète in a week.
