Nearly 350 people responded to the call from the Mines de rien coalition, this Saturday, November 23, 2024, early in the afternoon in Glomel, in Central Brittany. This call was widely relayed, in particular, by Les Soulèvements de la terre Mervent (southern Brittany).
This mobilization, which is intended to be protesting while being festive, intends to denounce the agreement, delivered by the prefect of Côtes-d'Armor, on June 20, for the extension of the quarry, via the creation of a fourth pit . This site, operated by the multinational Imerys, is particularly rich in andalusite, an essential mineral in the production of refractory materials.

They denounce an “ecological disaster”
One month after the filing of the contentious appeal by the Eau et rivières de Bretagne association, on October 21, Mines de rien intends to highlight this “ecological disaster”. They point in particular “a great threat to water resources, in the short, medium and long term, because the quarry is located at the head of two watersheds, the Blavet, which goes as far as Lorient, and the Ellé, which goes as far as 'in Quimperlé. […] The multinational consumes almost double the water consumption of the entire population of the Kreiz-Breizh Community of Communes, which housed 18,000 inhabitants in 2021.

The procession left around 2:30 p.m., in a good-natured and festive spirit. Organizers reminded protesters not to enter Imerys property. The course is set for a dump (mining waste deposit), this is where the speeches will take place.
On the program: naturalist walk and deiz before returning to the Trégornan church square to then join, at the end of the afternoon, Plounévez-Quintin, for the fest-noz.
