Charlie Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance) is still at the head of the Vendée Globe, and has even widened the gap on Thomas Ruyant (Vulnerable), while the head of the fleet is sailing along Brazil.
There are now 19 boats to have crossed the equator, and the leader of the Vendée Globe has not changed since Friday morning. It's still Charlie Dalin. The skipper of Macif Santé Prévoyance, who is one of the favorites for this tenth edition, even increased his lead over Thomas Ruyant (Vulnerable), since he increased it to 32 miles at the 7 a.m. time mark. The first sixteen in the general classification are held in 220 miles and are currently sailing along the Brazilian coast. Within a few hours, they should be rewarded for their efforts with a highly anticipated depression, which should propel them to the Cape of Good Hope in the coming days.
“The famous depression will allow us to do quite a bit of South-Easting already and then we will branch off to the next one,” said Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa), currently fifth, 54 miles from the leader, during a session. It's a real gateway to Good Hope in fast and still rather pleasant conditions! For the moment, there are few variations, we have few settings, it's rather quiet, almost monotonous… But it's not bad! I'm looking forward to weather systems that move a little faster. I feel ready for what’s next! »
Simon: “It proves the homogeneity of the set”
Surprising fourth, Sébastien Simon is making the most of every moment: “I'm in my race, I feel good on board, it's an extraordinary boat,” says the skipper Groupe Dubreuil. The battle at the forefront is quite incredible. It proves the homogeneity of the field, the level of preparation of the teams. It's pretty awesome. But I try not to look at the map too much. I try to go my way, my race, and not focus too much on what others are doing. For the moment it's quite profitable, it's nice but the road is still long so there's no point in getting carried away now. » At the back of the pack, the Hungarian Szabolcs Weöres (New Europe) is approaching Cape Verde.
