No train has been running between Poitiers and La Rochelle since this morning of November 21. Around 8:40 a.m., a person was hit by a train at the station. La Mothe-Saint-Héray, in Deux-Sèvres. The TER stopped 200 m after the collision, at the bridge, rue des Terres Blanches, according to the Sdis des Deux-Sèvres which dispatched 11 firefighters to the scene.

With traffic blocked on the entire railway line, replacement buses have been put in place to ensure service at the times scheduled for the trains. Due to poor weather conditions which make service intervention difficult, the resumption of train circulation, initially scheduled between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., took place around 12:30 p.m., very gradually.

According to information from France 3, collected from witnesses, the person, killed instantly, attempted to cross the tracks in order to return to the platform opposite. It was at this moment that a train passed through La Mothe-Saint-Héray station without stopping, and was unable to avoid it.

Immediately after the accident, the SNCF had its pedestrian crossing facilities checked. She assures that according to the bailiff dispatched to the site, no anomaly was detected.
