The Kaolack region, located in the heart of the peanut basin, will be the center of national consultations on water and sanitation from November 21 to 23, 2024, according to an announcement from the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye. This strategic event will bring together the main players in the sector to “co-build a new national policy” in these essential areas. By choosing this region, the government underlines its desire to guarantee equitable distribution of water resources and sanitation services, without geographical or social distinction. The three-day meeting will focus on the idea of an equitable and sovereign Senegal, where all citizens, whether urban or rural, have equal access to vital services.

The consultations aim to move the country towards ambitions aligned with Vision Senegal 2050, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030, as well as the African Water Vision 2063.
