Essonne: Itteville decorated by volunteer residents for Christmas

This year, the town of Itteville can count on volunteer residents to decorate the streets during the Christmas period.

It all started on October 8, when Aurélie Houbron, a 35-year-old graphic designer and mother of two children, published an appeal on a local Facebook group. His goal? Gather volunteers to imagine and make festive decorations to offer an enchanted end to the year to the people of Itteville. Touched by his enthusiasm, around ten Itteville residents responded and met every Saturday to design decorative objects intended for the Christmas market and to beautify the town throughout the month of December. “ We have only been in Itteville for a year and my son Ethan found the town sad last year without Christmas decorations. I wanted to act, to make things with recycled objects and I found lots of ideas on Pinterest », explains the initiator.

In just a few weeks, the group created lollipops from pool chips and paper plates on bamboo poles, stars created from twisted metal hangers and tinsel, Christmas trees from wooden pallets, and more. . Ideas flow and creations multiply in the house of the park keeper at Itteville town hall, a room lent by the municipality. “ Any help is welcome, because we plan to continue next year, perhaps even create an association to create decorations for Easter in addition to Christmas », Supports the initiator of the project. It’s an opportunity to meet and no matter the age, there is always a way to help. A 6-year-old child made festive ballotins from toilet paper rolls. » Among the volunteers nicknamed the “Little Elves of Itteville”, there is Isabelle, a 52-year-old from Itteville: “ I'm here because I want to prove that we can give ourselves the means to see the magic of Christmas in the eyes of children, but also adults. ».

The group's creations will be unveiled during the Itteville Christmas market, which will be held on Saturday November 23 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday November 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Marcel-Cerdan gymnasium. Visitors will be able to enjoy numerous artisan stands, perfect for finding original gifts as the holidays approach.
