The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, affirmed that Moroccan industry has established itself at the forefront of cutting-edge professions, during the monthly session of oral questions on the general policy of the government in the House of Advisors. Thanks to the High Royal Guidance and the stability of the Kingdom, the industry has become a central pillar of economic growth and national exports, he stressed.
In the automotive sector, Morocco is now the African leader with an annual production capacity of 700,000 vehicles and a local integration rate of 69%, which the government aims to increase to 80%. Automotive exports reached a record 148 billion DH in 2023 and continue to grow, with 115 billion DH recorded at the end of September 2024. The country also produces three types of electric cars and is developing a value chain for batteries, consolidating thus its position in green mobility.
The aeronautics industry, with more than 150 companies such as Boeing and Airbus, is experiencing notable expansion, with exports reaching 20 billion DH at the end of September 2024, up 20.2% compared to the previous year. At the same time, the electrical and electronic sectors are posting record performances, with a 21% increase in exports in 2023, for a total volume of 19 billion DH.
Finally, the Head of Government highlighted progress in the pharmaceutical industry, in particular with the creation of a vaccine manufacturing and packaging unit with an annual production capacity of 116 million units, a strategic project for Morocco and the African continent. As for the food industry, it continues to make a strong contribution to the economy, bringing together nearly 2,000 companies and generating an annual turnover of 185 billion DH.
