What happened?
The events took place on Sunday, shortly before 7 a.m., in a residential area of Châlons-en-Champagne. According to our information, the victim was walking in the street and was on the phone when she was approached by the main suspect. The latter allegedly ordered her to give him her cell phone, which the 25-year-old young woman refused.
That’s when the surge of violence began. The 52-year-old man hit the young woman very violently and multiple times. He then allegedly dragged him by force into a white van, which he owned, and continued to beat him in the vehicle. The young woman then struggled and managed to escape from the van.
Alerted by screams, a couple intervened and managed to put an end to the attack. The main suspect then fled in his van. Emergency services then arrived on site and hospitalized the young woman in serious condition.
Around 10:30 a.m., a little over three hours after the events, the white van was found submerged in a canal of the Marne, a few hundred meters from the scene of the attack. Traces of blood were discovered inside.
