Nearly 55 million unused electrical appliances are lying dormant in Belgian homes: “We could fill the Farmers’ Tower in Antwerp five times”

“It is striking to note that 12% of those surveyed do not know where electrical appliances can be recycled, and that 8% do not even know that broken electrical appliances can be recycled,” points out Recupel.

If certain objects are therefore forgotten in a corner, 13.7% of respondents indicate that they throw away appliances with household waste. “By doing this, the devices will be incinerated, which is dangerous and has a negative impact on the environment,” warns Recupel CEO Eric Dewaet.

When a device is still in good working order, it can be returned to a resource center, reminds the non-profit organization. Broken devices can be taken to the recycling yard, store or supermarket.
