It is a titanic project, started in 2015 in the rural communes of the department, which has just been completed in Barbizon. This Wednesday, November 13, 2024, the Departmental Energy Union of Seine-et-Marne (Sdesm) organized a symbolic ceremony, to mark the removal of the last meter of bare wire in a rural area, in the painters' village. Although the event may seem trivial, it is of great importance for all the inhabitants of these rural communities, since it allows them to secure the power supply thousands of rural households and adapt to climatic hazards…
“We had to eradicate them”: Sdesm puts an end to bare wires in rural areas
“In the event of bad weather, we realized the great vulnerability of these dilapidated electrical networks and it was imperative to eradicate them,” emphasizes Bruno Brionhead of the supplies quality department at Sdesm. These bare wires could cause courts-circuits if they touch each other and cause breakdowns. »
An ambitious investment program was thus launched by the Sdesm, to the tune of €4.5 million – including €3.5 million financed by the Case-Facé (the body for Financing community aid for rural electrification, an emanation of the Ministry of Ecological Transition) to remove the 165 km of bare wires which had been listed in rural areas in the department.
So, 280 construction sites were carried out in nine years, in 146 rural municipalities in Seine-et-Marnewith a conclusion in Barbizon. Thanks to a total investment of €4.5 million – including €3.5 million subsidized by Cas-Facé – this program made it possible to eradicate the 165 km of bare wires recorded in rural areas in 2014.
These 280 projects carried out in 146 municipalities in Seine-et-Marne made it possible to replace these unprotected wires and to deploy twisted cables overhead or underground, when the situation permitted.
Major breakthrough
“We pay very close attention to town planning and aesthetics in our village, so the removal of these last meters of bare wire is completely symbolic,” greeted Jean-Sébastien Bouillotdeputy mayor of Barbizon. In 2015, it was the town of Achères-la-Forêt which marked the start of the eradication project.
Seine-et-Marne is now at the forefront in this area since it is the only French department, with the Alpes-Maritimes, to have removed these bare wires in rural areas. “It’s the end of long-term work and also a symbolic moment,” smiles Pierre Yvroudthe president of Sdesm. This is a major step forward which makes it possible to secure the network with less accident-prone and safer infrastructures for electricity supply. »
According to Sdesm, however, a few isolated cables could still be discovered in the future in rural areas. In urban areas, there are still 90 km of bare wires to replace in the 450 municipalities of Sdesm. Throughout Seine-et-Marne, according to Enedis, 140 km of bare cables will still need to be replaced, in around fifty municipalities.
