Nîmes: angry farmers take action – News – Agricultural crisis – Nîmes

This Monday evening, like everywhere in , farmers once again made their anger heard in Nîmes. Between blockades, searches of trucks and covering of radars, they denounce the EU-Mercosur agreement and the government's broken promises.

This Monday, November 18, the farmers of Gard returned to the field of protest, anger clearly visible in Nîmes. They strongly denounce the lack of follow-up on the commitments made in February by a government which has now resigned. “I didn't think I would come back a few hundred meters from the highway where we were less than a year ago,” confides David Sève, president of the FDSEA du Gard. “We no longer want promises, we want concrete things now. »

The mobilization began around 5 p.m. in front of the Auchan supply center, located in Saint-Césaire. Around a hundred demonstrators blocked the entrances to the site, forcing a delegation from the brand to receive them to visit the warehouses. Once inside, they noticed a poor representation of local wines. “There are 90% French wines, but only 15% in bulk. And when it comes to Gard wine, apart from a palette of Listel, it’s a desert,” lament the farmers.

“You won’t cash in until we cash in.”

After this first action, the demonstrators moved towards the roundabout of the Nîmes-Ouest motorway exit, near Carrefour Nîmes Étoile. There, the tone rose. Around the “fire of anger”, sausages were grilled, but the atmosphere was mainly marked by anger. Heavy goods vehicles leaving the toll booth were screened, several were searched, and a truck carrying foreign fruit and vegetables – mainly Spanish – had part of its cargo unloaded.

The evening continued with an operation called “Chouette”, targeting the department’s radars. “We don’t break anything, we just cover up,” the farmers say. Their message is clear: as long as their demands are not taken into account, they will continue their actions. “You won’t cash in until we cash in,” sums up one of the participants.

For Gard farmers, this evening is yet another cry of alarm in a fight that they hope will lead to concrete actions. If no action is currently scheduled for Tuesday, the farmers say they are ready to continue the fight and for other punchy actions…
