In Paris, bullfighting awards its prizes
It is within the framework of the Gymnase theater in Paris, on December 2, that French bullfighting will award its prizes during a big evening called the Brindis d'or. The sponsors of the event are prestigious. They are Sébastien Castella and Léa Vicens.
“The idea, explains Benjamin Guillaume, one of the creators of the evening, member of a bullfighting club in Paris, is to bring together those who practice bullfighting today around a unique ceremony of its kind to honor its actors and also highlight those who work in the shadows.”
From the best novillero to the best matador, including prizes highlighting transmission, activist activity on the networks and original initiatives, twelve prizes will be awarded, including two of honor to the rejoneadora from Nîmes and the matador from Béziers.
Two days of aficion with the Friends of Pablo Romero
The bullfighting club Les Amis de Pablo Romero is organizing two days of competition on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November. The first day will take place at the bodega on rue Emile-Jamais with, at 6:30 p.m., the presentation, by Christophe Chay, of the book Las Cinco menos cinco which he produced with Jacques Durand, and Blaise Volckaert and which he will dedicate. After the tapas and vino aperitif, a bullfighter without borders conference will begin at 8 p.m. with the participation of Tibo Garcia and Solal. The next day, go to the Mas du Sire in Quissac where the two Nîmes matadors, from 11 a.m., will hold off two macho guys from the Chamaco ganaderia. Entrance €10 for this tenua, free for under 18s. Bullfighting at the Assizes: conference on November 21 with the bullfighting club of the circle of the future
The Cercle de l'avenir bullfighting club will organize a conference-debate on the theme of bullfighting at the Assizes. It will take place on Thursday, November 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cercle de l’avenir, 25 bis, rue Nicot in Nîmes. Emmanuel Durand will be the guest. In 2023, he wrote a play la corrida summoned to appear before the Gard assizes which had been performed at the Atria. It was then published in a book in collaboration with the Coordination of the bullfighting clubs of Nîmes and Gard. Emmanuel Durand will come and present the book. A broad debate will follow during which the themes of bull and bullfighting, bullfighting and disappearance of an ecosystem, cultural censorship and democratic expression can be addressed.
A toro café homage to Paquirri
A bull café paying tribute to Paquirri will take place on Saturday November 23 at the initiative of the Coordination of the bullfighting clubs of Nîmes and Gard. It will take place from 10 a.m. in the patio de caballos of the Nîmes arenas. It will be hosted by Vincent Roger. Will take part: the aficionado Christian Chalvet, the matadors Stéphane Meca and Alain Montcouquiol as well as Frédéric Pastor, the deputy mayor of Nîmes responsible for bullfighting.
The documentary film The Running of the Bulls screened in Redessan on November 30
On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the Jean-Paul Boyer, Culture & Cinema association, with the support of the National Cinema Center, the Cinémathèque française and the bullfighting clubs Le Toril de Redessan and L'Aficion cheminote Nîmoise, is organizing a bullfighting film club, on November 30, at 6 p.m. at the Redessan village hall (Gard). On reels of 35 mm film, the documentary film by Pierre Braunberger and Myrhiam, The Running of the Bulls, will be screened. Made in 1951, this benchmark film in terms of bullfighting was hailed as an event upon its release by the great critic André Bazin. He explains bullfighting, its rules, its rites and its secrets, through races with the most famous bullfighters of the time, like Dominguin or Manolete.
The comments were written by Michel Leiris and said by Jean Desailly. Pierre Braunberger won an honorary César in 1980. The evening will take place in the presence of the director's daughter, Laurence Braunberger, president of Films du Jeudi.
In the first part, A Frenchman in the Arena will be screened (Gaumont news, 1977, 6 minutes), in the presence of Alain Montcouquiol. The screening will be followed by a friendly exchange, in the spirit of a tertulia. Entrance, €5, free for members.
