around forty town halls in closed for three days to protest against budget cuts

At least 39 town halls in are closing for three days, from Tuesday November 19 and until Thursday, to denounce the budgetary effort requested by the government from communities, reports Bleu Gard Lozère. The date was not chosen at random since the congress of mayors of France opens Tuesday in . This 106th edition was baptized “congress of anger”.

The finance bill (PLF) for 2025 provides for an effort of five billion euros in savings for communities. Several avenues are being considered to achieve this objective, including the elimination of part of the reimbursements for public works. “I don’t know how I’m going to rehabilitate the six bridges that I have to rehabilitate. It’s impossible to do it alone,” worries on France Bleu, Guy Chéron, mayor of Génolhac (Gard). The elected official initiated this action.

“We will arrive at a time when mayors will not renew their mandate” in the 2026 municipal elections, warns Jean Oliva, mayor of Malons-et-Elze. “We’re already not getting out of this” and yet, “we put our all into it” with “crazy days” but, continues the city councilor. “If the state lets us down like this, I don’t know where we’re going to go.”
