The Haute-Garonne gendarmes have undergone training as part of actions to prevent and manage road crises during the winter period.
As part of road crisis prevention and management actions during the winter period, the unit commander of the Muret motorized platoon (Haute-Garonne) brought together several road safety players for essential training aimed at strengthening safety during snowy or icy episodes during which immobilizing heavy goods vehicles becomes a major challenge.
The young gendarmes recently assigned to the unit as well as the more experienced soldiers benefited from the expertise of the Vinci Autoroutes teams.
Why this training?
During bad winter weather, the management of heavy goods vehicles is essential to ensure the safety of road users. In coordination with highway services, the gendarmerie must regulate traffic, divert heavy goods vehicles to storage areas under prefectural authority and avoid dangerous behavior.
The role of the gendarmerie
Our soldiers play an essential role in this system; they must:
- regulate traffic with a view to diverting heavy goods vehicles to storage areas;
- maintain order and ensure that dangerous behavior is avoided during parking maneuvers;
- assist users in the event of a breakdown or accident;
- inform drivers about traffic conditions.
This training made it possible to strengthen collaboration between the different road safety stakeholders, to exchange good practices but also to improve the skills of the young gendarmes in the units.
Other exchanges have already been scheduled in the coming months, road safety remains a priority for the units of the Haute-Garonne departmental road safety squadron.
