“The mission is not yet accomplished, it’s a very important match for me”

Pape Thiaw, for his last match as interim coach of the Lions, presented himself at a press conference this Monday. On the eve of the reception of Burundi, the technician did not, as usual, want to advance too much on the subject concerning his future at the head of the National Team.

What is the group’s state of mind before this match?

As always, the players want to win their match. They are competitors and that is very important. We saw that the Burkina team took 3-0 in Malawi, which shows that there are no easy matches in Africa. So we should expect a very difficult match against Burundi. We will have to be concentrated and put in all the necessary ingredients to win this match in front of our public who have supported us for a long time.

Do you feel like you have accomplished your mission?

We cannot say that the mission is accomplished because we still have one match to play. We want to fight and end the year in style, it’s too early to say that the mission is accomplished. We want to play a big match against Burundi, it’s something important in front of our public, it’s one of the keys to the match and what we are doing, I hope it will be confirmed tomorrow. The mission is not yet accomplished, I still have one match which is very important for me, it is a final. With Senegal’s status, all the teams that play against us want to win. We will be prepared to win this match but for the future, concerning me, I let the good Lord decide.

Can we expect any changes for this match?

I would have liked to be able to answer this question, but I don’t like to talk too much about my tactical systems on the eve of a match, or to talk about which players I am going to put on. We should be patient, we will see the players who will start this match. In any case, all players are important.

Did you speak with Noah Fadiga to find out his situation?

I wish him a good recovery, because above all he is a son to me. We shared unforgettable moments with his dad with whom I still stay in touch. At the moment, he has had an operation but he remains a Senegalese, like any other. I took steps, we spoke, but we will have to let him recover. And then we’ll see.
