10 000 m² of spaces natural in the heart of a city.

Since July 14, residents of Montmorency (Val-d'Oise) can once again enjoy a historic place in the city, abandoned for years, the Serve park.

Ces works had been wanted for years by the municipal team, it is now done.

Wasteland

It was a place left fallow for a long time. The Serve park served as an unofficial recycling center before the 2000s. It was full of waste of all kinds. In the 2000s, a first development was carried out by François Longchambon (mayor from 1995 to 2008, Editor's note), but it had since been completely abandoned.

THE habitants can now enjoy different facilities.

Several tables and a picnic area have been set up in a wooded area, and fitness equipment now allows everyone to “practice sport while enjoying the green surroundings,” says the town hall.

We will now protect the wooded and natural character of this place, allowing all generations to come and relax and have fun thanks to the new furniture installed.

The project of rehabilitation will have cost 759,000 euros, indicated Maxime Thory.

Thanks to private funding, the municipality was able to bring this project to fruition.

“We asked for help from some of our partners,” adds the elected official, who benefited from €118,500 in grants granted by the Plaine Vallée Agglomeration community and €123,177 by the Val-d'Oise Department.

An old career

Located on the Champeaux plateau, on the edge of forest of Montmorency, the Parc de la Serve is a site registered as “massif of the three forests of Carnelle, L'Isle-Adam, Montmorency and their surroundings”.

It is historically linked to the industry of brick and tiles, since materials were extracted there until the 1970s.

The park subsequently served as a landfill for heavy materials and household waste.

From 1986, the abandonment of these activities allowed the natural return of vegetation. The site was transformed into a park by mayor François Longchambon then gradually left abandoned by his successors before the complete redevelopment initiated in 2024 by Maxime Thory.

The City plans, in 2025, to make public access to Duke of Dino castle parkin order to create another green lung in this town of some 22,000 souls.
