Integrity of packages, secrecy of correspondence: 100 new postal workers from Hérault took the oath at the prefecture

87 postmen and 13 account managers newly recruited in the department took the oath on Friday November 15 during a ceremony at the prefecture in . They are committed to respecting the ethics and professional conduct of La Poste.

Like doctors or other professions, postal workers also take an oath when entering the profession. During a solemn ceremony, they undertake to respect the ethics and professional conduct of La Poste, concerning “the integrity of objects, the inviolability and secrecy of correspondence and information of which they become aware in the performance of their service”as stated in the document they swear by.

Friday, November 15, at the Hérault prefecture, 100 new postal workers (87 postmen and 13 customer service managers) gave their word to their company and the State, promising to accomplish their mission with conscience and honesty. This, in front of the territorial delegate of the La Poste group in Hérault, Clément Cabrol, and the prefect of Hérault, François-Xavier Lauch.

“It makes me proud”

“We are happy that this practice is preserved, it’s a bit like a tradition and as a postwoman, it makes me proud to take the oath, it’s important”confides Laure, postwoman in Lattes, who, like the other agents, received an official certificate of oath. “You are the last network that reaches everyone, and you are one of those people who are at the service of your fellow citizens”the prefect reminded them.

Taking the oath is reserved for certain professions and corporations such as doctors, peacekeepers, legal experts, air navigation controllers, and interpreters. For postal workers, it has existed since 1790. “Today more than ever it is considered a major act when hiring an agent”underlines La Poste.
