And for good reason, it is the splendid high altar and the two majestic altarpieces which adorn the interior of the centuries-old monument.

The saga of the high altar

The centerpiece of the monument, the main altar experienced tribulations. The work was sculpted, in the Phocaean city,n 1777. Transported by boat, aboard 19 crates, the cargo was seized in Guernsey… by the English before heading to… Holland.

Recovered after numerous transactions, the work was only installed in the choir of the church in the spring of 1793, following a long trial between the shipowner and the Mottérieux clergy.

A jewel of sculpture

Cut into the carrara marble by Mr. Régnier, marble worker in , the main altar is decorated with several figures of angels.

“The altar constitutes the most beautiful ornament of our church and is the admiration of all visitors. He is also mentioned in the tourist guides of the region,” wrote about him in the parish bulletin, in October 1952Father Lhotelier. No wonder this gem has been listed as a Historic Monument since 2000.

Two imposing altarpieces from the 18th century

In the north and south arms of the transepts, the large stone lady also houses two majestic altarpiecesprobably made at the end of the 18e century. The richly decorated altarpieces are decorated with numerous polychrome wooden statues.

Visitors may recognize Saint-Vincent-Ferrier (1350-1419), Spanish preacher after whom the church is named.

Saint-Rochwhose cult was once popular, is shown showing a plague bubo on his thigh. Saint-Yvespatron saint of Brittany, appears in priest's clothing.

In another work, Sainte-Marguerite proudly defeats a dragon…

Enigmatic inscriptions

Unusual and even exceptional, the two altarpieces, also protected as Historic Monuments, bear two registrations where translations of the name “God” appear in the forms of “Jehova” and “Geova”.

A enigma worthy of the “Da Vinci Code” which has, for several years, aroused visit of researchers.
