His return to his native lands attracted crowds. Bernard Cazeneuve was at a signing session in Thue et Mue, in Calvados, Sunday November 17. Many literature lovers came to get up close and personal with the former Prime Minister.
But the political subject is never far from conversations. Like this spade thrown after a dedication offered to a young fan. “We tend to think that politics does not interest young people and when it does, it is because they are members of France Insoumise“, quips Bernard Cazeneuve, at the microphone of Lara Dolan, journalist France 3 Normandie.
After a few signatures, questions arise about his future in politics. As a reminder, the former deputy for Manche left the Socialist Party and founded his party La Convention in March 2023. He was expected to be Prime Minister during the government reshuffle.
“Politics is never behind me, to the extent that I am someone who has convictions and who is committed and who says what he thinks. Sometimes at the risk of finding yourself alone or sometimes having to endure the malice of your friends“, says Bernard Cazeneuve.
So, is there a chance of seeing his name in the 2027 presidential election. The answer is quite nebulous. “Have you seen the seriousness of the situation the country finds itself in? There is an institutional collapse, there is a political decline, an economic, budgetary, industrial decline… The question is whether with others, within the framework of a political approach, we can be useful for his country. If I have to be available to be useful, I will always be ready“, says the former Prime Minister.
His audience already imagines him back on the political scene. Several visitors said a few words to him about their hopes of seeing him enter the Élysée. The former Prime Minister remains very discreet about his intentions for the moment.
