Farmers are mobilizing to defend their profession and draw public attention to the challenges they face, but far from the highway blockages of last year: no threats of stopping supplies, nor obstructing traffic.
Teaching the public
The goal: to challenge without hindering the daily lives of users. On the program: public displays, towing in supermarkets, signage of imported products to denounce unfair competition, and awareness of the impacts of the Mercosur agreement. Farmers denounce an agreement that would flood the French market with products that do not meet the same standards as those imposed on local farmers. This mobilization may not have an end date if the various governments do not act quickly.
Presence near major roads in Savoie and Haute-Savoie
Banners are also deployed along busy roads, particularly around Annecy, Annemasse, Saint-Julien-en-Genevois and the Mont-Blanc axis. Occasional mobilizations can also take place on roundabouts in different towns. A national appeal that the FDSEA and Young Farmers unions wish to bring to the local level.
Guillaume Leger, President of the Young Farmers of Haute-Savoie, tells us about this mobilization and the different demands:
