In recent days, temperatures have cooled significantly in Brittany but they will drop further next week, from Wednesday November 20, 2024 after strong winds which will sweep the region the day before, Tuesday November 19. Sleet or snowflakes are even expected at the end of the week.

Drop in temperatures

A little ahead of schedule, meteorological winter, which begins on December 1, could well arrive in force next week in Brittany, as elsewhere in France.

If this mid-November weekend was consistent with what is expected for the season, temperatures of around ten degrees in the afternoon under calm and sometimes sunny weather, Monday November 18 the lines will start to move.

During the day, the wind will start to blowfirst on the coasts then throughout the region, with gusts up to 40-50 km/h accompanied by rain in the evening. The sky will be overcast but we will still have 11 to 14°C in the region.

First strong wind

But it's the next day, Tuesday November 19 that the weather will seriously deteriorate.

Météo France first forecasts westerly winds in the morning, up to 70 km/h on the coasts, 60 km/h inland and a little less in the Rennes region, 45 km/h.

It is in the afternoon of November 19 that the wind will be the most marked since it should strengthen everywhereblowing up to 90 km/h in gusts on the Emerald Coast, in the Saint-Malo region.

Elsewhere, it should blow around 60-70 km/h on the coasts and around 50-60 km inland. This strong wind will be present all day, accentuating the feeling of cold, especially as it should be accompanied by rain.

Temperatures will remain stable, around 10°C everywhere in Brittany, except in the Rostrenen region (Côtes-d'Armor) where we should not exceed 8°C.

Temperatures near freezing at night

It is also in this sector that temperatures will drop the most during the night, probably below 0°C but the entire interior of Brittany will approach it, as far as Fougères (Ille-et-Vilaine).

And it's the middle of the week, Wednesday November 20 to start with, which will be the coldest with the most extreme temperature for the day at 4°C, still in Fougères even if it will not be much warmer in Rostrenen, 5°C or even in Saint-Brieuc.

We will have an additional degree (6) elsewhere in Côtes-d'Armor such as Lannion or Merdrignac and it will go up another degree (7), in Rennes, Pontivy or in northern and western Finistère. Southern Finistère and Morbihan should see their temperatures rise to 8-9°C.

Precipitation is forecast for this day on Wednesday November 20 and a risk of sleet is present in the interior.

Chance of snow Thursday

These cold temperatures will drop further on Thursday, November 21. They could then stay close to zero degrees in central Brittany and climb up to 4 or 5°C at the best of the day on the coasts.

It is undoubtedly Thursday that the risk of snow is greatest according to Météo France which, this Saturday, November 16, is forecasting it in the Fougères region and in that of Rostrenen for the evening and night of November 21.

Friday November 22 the risk is still present in these same regions. If temperatures remain low on Friday in Brittany, they could start to rise to reach more than 10°C everywhere the next day, Saturday November 23.
