Directed by Fabrice Gobert and Daniel Grou, the series The Housebroadcast since the end of September 2024 on Apple +, features the haute couture house Ledu, known for its famous lace creations. The series, in which we find among others Lambert Wilson, Carole Bouquet, Amira Casar and Zita Hanrot, takes place largely in Paris and notably in a magnificent mansion, seat of the Ledu house. But, in “real” life, it has a completely different destination, far from the world of luxury.

Colossal work to install the administrative court of appeal

The Hôtel de , a gem of Parisian heritage, is a private mansion located at 68, rue François-Miron, in the 4th arrondissement of the capital. Built from 1655 in the Marais district, it has in fact housed, since 2004, the Paris Administrative Court of Appeal.

Seized during the French Revolution then bought and rented, the hotel was transformed into a rental building at the beginning of the 19th century, at the cost of major work including the creation of an additional floor. In the 1930s, despite its unsanitary conditions, it accommodated more than a hundred inhabitants. Acquired by the city of Paris in 1943, classified as a historic monument in 1966, it saw its last inhabitants leave in 1987.

In 1995, the State decided to launch major work to install the seat of the court there. But the magistrates and agents of the latter will only be able to come and work there eight years later after a delicate and large-scale renovation.

“It was necessary to define, in the midst of passionate controversies, a restoration project that was as respectful as possible of the building whose original state was poorly known, while being compatible with the needs of a 21st century jurisdiction,” recalls the administrative court of appeal on its site. The choice fell on a restoration to the state in which the hotel was in the first third of the 18th century, a well-documented state and in compliance with the requirements of the jurisdiction, in particular with regard to the possibility of creating meeting rooms. large audience.
