It is a project which was eagerly awaited by the inhabitants of the Guingamp region. Work to install a Burger King restaurant, carried out by the Colas company, began this Friday, November 15, along the RN12.

A backhoe loader is already at work, to prepare the land, located in the town of Ploumagoar, opposite the Ibis hotel, very close to the La Chesnaye interchange.

Contacted by l'Écho, the mayor of Ploumagoar, Yannick Echevest, believes that the site should now progress quite quickly: “Approximately six months of work are planned by the builder. We can therefore estimate that the Burger King should open by May 2025.”

The restaurant is planned for an area of more than 400 m2, with the creation of 70 jobs.

The extension project for the Ibis hotel, just opposite, also promises to revitalize this area of La Chesnaye, ideally located between and .

A project delayed by appeals

Initially planned for 2019, the Burger King construction site was suspended following an appeal filed by the municipality of Guingamp. In July 2020, the administrative court canceled the first building permit, pointing to potential problems with the attractiveness of the city center and traffic at the entrance to Guingamp.

Burger King hadn't given up, however. A second building permit application, adapted to the remarks of the court and the Guingamp town hall, was filed in November 2020.

After an in-depth analysis by the competent services, the permit was finally validated.

A major local impact

The installation of the restaurant promises to transform the entrance to Guingamp. Strategically located opposite the RN12, the future Burger King could attract local and passing customers.
