From November 4 to 10, 2024, the Finistère Gendarmerie carried out thedepartmental operation Own territoryunder the coordination of the regional judicial center specializing in environmental offenses near the Brest judicial court.
It was about controlling 60 sites identified “after prior work in partnership with local elected officials”: open-air landfills.
In a press release, the gendarmerie specifies that 41 investigators specially trained personnel were hired for this operation in which the regional directorate for the environment, planning and housing (DREAL), the departmental directorate for territories and the sea (DDTM), the departmental directorate for the protection of populations (DDPP) and the French office for biodiversity (OFB).
160 infractions
The operation took investigators to Santec, Pleyber-Christ, Guiclan, Crozon, Douarnenez, Scaër, La Feuillée, Riec-sur-Bélon, Tréflévénez, Pencran…
«57 legal proceedings have been established, indicates the Gendarmerie. 160 offenses relating to damage to the environment, public health and animal welfare were noted – including 126 criminal offenses. »
At the same time, 17 flow and transport control operations relating to the transport of waste, the transport of live animals and other traceability of transported products were carried out by the Departmental Road Safety Squadron, giving rise to 26 minutes.
