FDSEA farmers announce blockades to mark their opposition to Mercosur

THE farmers of Vendée are preparing to be talked about again.

After the massive blockages at the start of the year, the Mercosur (free trade treaty) is bringing back the voices of Vendée farmers.

“While work in the fields continues with the corn harvest and the sowing of straw cereals, the National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FDSEA) and the Young Farmers of Vendée are fully part of the national action to “opposition to Mercosur”, they indicate in a press release published this Friday November 15, 2024.

At the same time as the G20 meeting in Brazil, to denounce “sieve Europe” several actions are being organized in the departmentthey warn.

Blockages Monday November 18, 2024

From Monday November 18, from 6 a.m., farmers will be in front of the sub-prefecture of Fontenay-le-Comte; at 11 a.m., they will be in front of the La Ferrière town entrance sign (coming from La Roche-sur-Yon). From 6 p.m., they will block the Europe roundabout in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.

“Similarly, sporadically throughout the department from November 18, municipal entrance signs will be covered up,” warn the two unions.

Vendée farmers recall their demands:

“1. Short-term and cash flow measures to support farmers;

2. Drastic administrative simplification through government-led measures;

3. Legislate to put entrepreneurial spirit back at the heart of agricultural policies;

4. Stop European and global inconsistencies: to restore ambition to European food sovereignty. »
