“Challenge des Gentlemen”, the new campaign of the Haute-Garonne Cancer League

After Pink October, Blue November (also called Movember). In this month of November dedicated to awareness and prevention of male cancers (i.e. men's health), the Haute-Garonne Cancer League is organizing its 5th edition of the Gentlemen’s Challenge.

An important campaign dedicated to men

For the occasion, Vincent Clercformer professional rugby player, agreed to be the sponsor of the 2024 edition and to send messages to raise awareness among (young) men. With the Haute-Garonne Cancer League, they are breaking the silence on prostate, testicular, colon-rectum and other cancers linked to human papillomaviruses.

Note that Prostate cancer is the most common in men since in , the number of new cases closely approaches that of breast cancer in women, with approximately 60.000 diagnostics par an according to figures from Public Health France.

The main objective of this monthly campaign is therefore to raise awareness as much as possible and without taboo, to encourage screening. Without forgetting to remember that regular physical activity as well as having a healthy and balanced diet are essential for reduce risk factors development of this disease.

What medical appointments should you not miss?

In addition to recalling the importance of good lifestyle habits, the objective of the Gentlemen's Challenge is also to highlight important health appointments throughout a man's life:

  • Pour young boys aged 11 to 19 : recommended vaccination against human papillomavirus;
  • From the puberty : carrying out a self-examination of the testicles;
  • From 50 years old : participation in organized colorectal cancer screening, 100% covered by Health Insurance and which affects 47,000 people each year (it is the third most common male cancer). Detected at an early stage, it is curable in 9 out of 10 cases (INCa).
  • More generally, throughout his life You must carry out self-monitoring to detect possible warning signals, and consult your doctor regularly.
