Two different shows from the same channel sanctioned. Arcom, the audiovisual regulator, imposed a fine of 150,000 euros on CNews, the television police announced this Thursday, November 14 in press releases.
In detail, these are two separate fines of 100,000 and 50,000 euros, one for comments made on the CNews channel, the other on the show “Morandini Live”.
The first sanction of 100,000 euros concerns the program “In search of spirit” of February 25, 2024. In this program, abortion was described as “the leading cause of mortality in the world”. The channel, in the hands of ultra-conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré, apologized in the face of the outcry caused.
Arcom recalls in its argument that “abortion cannot be presented as a cause of mortality” and therefore points to a “manifest inaccuracy” which “was not the subject of any contradiction on the part of the other people present on stage.”
The second fine of 50,000 euros is linked to the “Morandini Live” broadcast of September 28, 2023. A subject was introduced in these terms: “Parents of Muslim students put pressure on the management of a college in Pau so that they can provide students with prayer rooms during a school trip to the Pyrenees.
Arcom established that the “facts in question, which turned out to be inaccurate, had not been the subject of sufficient verification and did not give rise to oratorical precautions”.
The announcement of these fines comes as C8, another channel belonging to Vincent Bolloré, plays big on Friday by contesting before the Council of State Arcom's decision to oust it from TNT at the end of February 2025.
C8, which notably hosts “TPMP” (“Touche pas à mon poste”), the flagship show of the controversial host Cyril Hanouna, launched a support petition at the end of last week, which has already gathered more than 600,000 signatures. C8 accumulated a fine of 7.6 million euros due to Cyril Hanouna's slip-ups in “TPMP”.
