In Cotentin, these young people in civic service take care of the elderly

The Unis-Cité volunteers have arrived October 14, 2024 on their civic service mission “senior solidarity”.

They are currently in discovery and training, and will soon be on the ground to visit isolated retired people, with premises in Valognes (Manche) which will serve as their base camp, at the residence les Mimosasmade available free of charge by the CCAS.

A meeting in November

In order to publicize their presence and their missionsa meeting took place Wednesday November 13 with Johann Hardouin, the team and project coordinator at Unis-Cité, who succeeds Hélène Ribet, Hubert Varin, vice-president of the CCAS, Bernard Lebaron, president of CLIC, and Mathilde Lefévre, coordinator of the eastern sector of CLIC.

The CLIC, whose mission is to organize actions in favor of the elderly, aims to be a “facilitator” with Unis-Cité, in particular through the “Brin de Causette” association which brings together volunteersTHE and who may be able to report isolated elderly people. Also present, as a visited senior and volunteer at Brin de chat, Dominique Cottebrune.

A united and paid mission

Two young people came to introduce themselves to explain what motivated them to participate in this session 2024 – 2025 : Alex Brasseur, 17 years old, just finished high school, and Jean Jacqueline, 20 years old.

Both are motivated by animation and hope to promote during a next professional activityor training these months spent in civic service.

You should know that civic service is open to all young people aged 16 to 25, and 30 years old. in case of disability without prior training conditions, for a period of 6 to 12 months, for a weekly time of 24 to 35 hourset paid more than €600 per month .

Johann Hardouin has under his guidance 24 young people in civic service, 20 on “senior” missions, including ten in Cherbourg, four in Valognes and four in Bricquebec, plus four young people in “health” mission called to travel to the Manche department.

Various missions

The awareness period et preparationof these young people began on October 14 and will continue for some time. Until the end of Decemberre it is still possible to contact the Unis-Cité coordinator, to strengthen the team young people in civic service.

Their missions are essentially home visits in pairs, but they also plan to organize outings elderly people, sometimes in collaboration with the Cherbourg or Bricquebec teams, as was done in springthe previous team by taking elderly people to the Montaigu-la-Brisette animal park.
