Although winter is still far away, the mildness experienced in recent weeks should give way to much lower temperatures from Monday, November 18. A drastic change is therefore to be expected and it should be accompanied by snowfall in at least 25 departments. Find out which corners of France will be affected.
Even if Météo France announces a return of cold, we will still be far from the temperatures measured during the years 1919, 1969, 1980 or even 2010, listed as having offered the coldest months of November. In 2010, for example, weather stations recorded -15.3° C in Orléans and even -16.8° C in Guillon in Eure-et-Loir.
The return of the cold
Météo France has revealed its forecasts for the coming days and it is winter temperatures that the French should expect. “Between a cold drop circulating in the east and south of the country and an anticyclone stationed on the British Isles, colder air will rush in and become widespread in the days to come.. This wave of freshness will set in across the country with temperatures below seasonal norms.
Temperatures will therefore drop from Friday November 15 with increasingly frequent frosts. Friday morning, temperatures will drop between -3 and 0°C
in the center-east, while the rest of the country will record temperatures between 2 and 4°C. However, during the day, the feeling of cold will fade slightly, as the sky will begin to clear, allowing some clearing which will spread from the south to the north of France.

Meteo France announces snowfall
From Sunday, disturbances from the North Atlantic will move towards France, causing a
“polar air stall”. A mass of cold and humid air will settle in, leading to temperatures below seasonal norms (approximately 1 to 3°C below average). Although this chill is typical of the season, it will be felt very unpleasant due to the combination of wind, rain and cold.
However, in mid-mountains, this situation will be favorable to the arrival of snow on all massifs. Météo France has indeed announced that Lozère, Cantal and Puy-de-Dôme should expect snowfall, as will the south of the country, with snow expected in Aveyron, Ardèche and the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Snow across the country
From November 17, snowfall will occur in the departments of the LoireSaône-et-Loire and Haute-Loirewhich was quite unusual at that time. Showers are expected, but with temperatures gradually dropping, the chance of rain turning to snow is expected to increase throughout the week. The amount of snow will obviously depend on the air temperature, which will play a determining role in the intensity of the falls.
