Amateur basketball – Women's National 2: Gimont will test himself in Deux-Sèvres against a team from Chauray who are aiming for advancement

the essential
The Chauray Basket-Club constitutes a formidable opponent, which the Gimontoises will have to master under the boards as well as from a distance, this Saturday, November 16 (8 p.m.), to hope to return to the Gers with a success in their pocket.

For the 8th day of Group B of Women's Nationale 2, Étoile Sportive de Gimont is making a long trip to Chauray, in Deux-Sèvres. Reigning French NF3 champions, the Chavezian “Panthères” rely on a group of experienced players as well as a powerful interior sector and good three-point skill. Add to that a defense almost as effective as that of the “Étoilistes”, adapting to the opposing game in order to deconstruct it, and you will have the ideal profile of a team which aims for nothing less than accession to the NF1.

In attack, the Deux-Sévriennes rely on a good variety of threats, inside with Johany Martingoulet and, above all, Minata Fofana (who regularly contributes 15-20 points), outside with captain Fatou Dieng , very effective at three points, as well as Flavie Rabaud and Laura Dimithé, the latter of whom may be absent.

With its strengths and its few weaknesses (a somewhat short squad, injured executives), Chauray started the year in good fashion, winning 5 of its first 7 games, thus presenting the same record as Gimont. Brilliant against the Espoirs of (+ 22) and La Roche Vendée (+ 36), just like in Garonne (+ 7 away), in Orthez (+ 15) or against (+ 47!), i.e. five of the last six teams in the ranking, the “Panthères” had more difficulty against the tenors of the division.

One move to play

At the opening of the championship, they lost in overtime at Basket Landes while their trip to left them with a painful memory (– 53!). An “industrial accident” which demonstrates that the Chraitiennes are not inaccessible, as long as we know how to take them at their own game, by running and playing the counter-attack.

Areas that the Gimontoises master well, with their younger but equally experienced squad. Of course, the Gersoises will once again suffer from the absence for the season of Élodie Bessières (cruciate knee ligaments) and that of Marie Athuyt for at least the month (torn calf). But even with only eight, the “Étoilistes” can claim a good result, thanks to their beautiful interior presence with Pauline Dambrun and Myriam Abdeljebbar, their external threat with Caroline Deroo and the sparkling and aggressive play of the Sarah Albinet-Lola Marin duo.

Winning will not be easy for the Gersoises, but nothing seems impossible for them as long as they control the circulation of the ball and demonstrate a skill that too often eludes them.
