According to our colleagues from France Bleu, the roads in the Dordogne department would be considerably damaged by the passage of trucks transporting several tonnes of carrots.
Residents are protesting against the deterioration of the roads. The problem would come from farmers who would have several tonnes of carrots delivered to feed their animals. This scenario has been repeating itself for around fifteen years, causing increasingly heavy damage. Ruts and large cracks caused by tractors gradually destroyed the surfaces.
Work required by local residents
Every day, trucks dump several tons of carrots on the farm. Consequences: an unpleasant smell for neighbors who also have to take detours to access their homes.
The municipality estimates the work needed to repair the roads to cost just over 200,000 euros, a significant sum for the small municipality. As for him, the farmer places the responsibility on the town hall, pointing out the poor maintenance of the roads. Faced with this situation, the mayor asked a bailiff to assess the damage caused but also hired a lawyer to enter into negotiations with the operator.
