The Gagnac-sur-Garonne bridge, used every day by more than 20,000 vehicles, will undergo a major modernization to guarantee its sustainability.Located north of , this structure will be completely rebuilt: replacement of the deck and prestressed reinforced concrete beams, conservation of the supports. This project, planned to last six to eight months, will require a temporary closure, with a reopening set for 2028. Toulouse Métropole anticipates the consequences of this closure and has initiated a broad citizen consultation between February and March 2024. More than 1,000 residents shared their expectations during public meetings, workshops and on the participatory platform “Jeparticipe”. Many participants expressed their wish to see the bridge integrate lanes dedicated to pedestrians, cyclists and people with reduced mobility (PRM), thus promoting more peaceful and sustainable travel. In order to minimize the impact for users, a mobility plan is being developed in partnership with municipalities and local socio-economic stakeholders. Concrete solutions, such as carpooling, temporary shuttles, cycle routes and arrangements for teleworking, are being considered. A new public consultation is planned for 2025 to refine this plan. This modernization project is therefore seen as an opportunity to transform mobility in northern Toulouse and to encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly practices.
