Friday, November 8, the traders who were unpacking at the Châteauneuf-sur-Sarthe market (delegated commune of Hauts d'Anjou) celebrated a strange anniversary: it has been a year since the market moved to Cour du Moulin. A change of location linked to the town hall deconstruction site. Until then, and for a long time, the market was located at Place Robert le Fort.
Maryline Lézé, mayor of Hauts d’Anjou; Marc-Antoine Driancourt, mayor of the delegated municipality of Châteauneuf-sur-Sarthe; and Michel Pommot, deputy for economic affairs, came to take stock with the traders.
The elderly “have deserted the aisles”
They were unanimous in saying that they noticed a sharp reduction in customers and therefore in sales. For the majority, they are very worried about the future of this market, some, more pessimistic, even think that it will not last beyond six months.
The majority of professionals think that this new place is not conducive to business. “ THE elderly people who previously came regularly have difficulty getting back to the center once their purchases have been made, so they have deserted the aisles, underlines the greengrocer. In addition, this place is not very visible. »
For Maryline Lézé: “ The market is an attractive place for the municipality, i We must therefore find an alternative, we must listen to suggest something else. »
An engaged reflection
The traders reminded the elected officials that during previous works at Place Robert-Le-Fort, they had moved to Rue de la Cigale and everyone had been very satisfied. For Michel Pommot, “ we have all the data, now we’re going to think”. Stay at the Moulin, go to Place Robert-Le-Fort, or rue de la Cigale, the question is asked.
Faced with this acute problem, it was suggested to dedicate a page of the municipal bulletin to the market and to develop communication intra-muros.
The morning ended with a friendly moment enjoyed between traders and elected officials.
