Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November, the Vendée Parks and Gardens Association (APJV) invites the public to discover the autumnal beauty of nature in nine parks and gardens in the department.

This new meeting is the operation Parks in autumn. André Chapelle, president of the association, explains: “We are usually used to operations of this type in summer (Neurodon in May, Rendez-vous aux jardins in June, Heritage Days in September). We wanted to add a new possibility: see the richness of fall colorswith an originality, the mixture of private and public parks. We all share the same passion for parks and gardens, and we want to open them up, facilitate visits and motivate all generations to discover, respect and share these magnificent places. »

Four public parks will open to the public in Vendée : the Henri-Joyau park and the Val-d'Asson park in Montaigu, the Dumaine garden in Luçon, and the Baron park in Fontenay-le-Comte. Five private parks, some opened especially for the occasion, will complete the offer: the park of the Château de Nesmy, that of the Domaine de l'Auneau (Chantonnay), the park of the Château de la Flocellière (Sèvremont), the park of Sallière (La Caillère-Saint-Hilaire) and the Château du Mazeau (Saint-Michel-le-Cloucq). “Each is representative of a particular park type; they are all different! »

A first edition

André Chapelle continues: “The public we primarily target is families and children, who are always very interested in these visits. Children will be able to kick the leaves that have fallen to the ground, because, except for safety reasons, they are left, being an important element of biodiversity. It will also be interesting to note that different tree species are not all at the same stage before winter: some prepare for it more quickly than others. »

Entrance will be freewithout prior registration. On the other hand, “this operation remains subject to the vagaries of the weather: bring suitable shoes”.

It's a first edition. “Our association hopes to launch a tradition and arouse interest in the conservation of these exceptional sites, by bringing together public managers and private owners in a common effort of development and transmission,” concludes the president of the APJV.
