The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada announced on Tuesday that it had opened an investigation into the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) after receiving a complaint regarding the processing of biological samples taken from athletes.
The complaint accusesOR of having communicated personal information to international federations which would have used it to assess the eligibility of athletes based on their gender without their knowledge or consent
.
This information would also have been used for purposes which would not be considered acceptable
under the Canadian Personal Information Protection Act (PIPEDA), according to the request filed with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
The survey thus aims to establish whether the collection, use and communication practices of theORwhich has been subject to Canadian regulations since 2015, comply with the LPRPDE.
In response, the international organization indicated be aware of the investigation
et hopes to be able to clarify its position with the Commissioner in due course
