“Waste litters the ground”… Garbage collection still at the heart of heated debates in West Aveyron

the essential
A consumer association criticizes the new waste collection system in West Aveyron. The intercommunality defends its model for savings.

Recently, the INDECOSA CGT 12, a consumer defense association, took action against the new waste collection system, deployed in recent months by Ouest Aveyron Communauté. “Given the cost of the installation, the permanent overflow of bins, the additional costs for users (car travel) and especially the increase in the household waste tax, the Ouest Aveyron Community community of communes should ask itself the question about the usefulness of such an investment for so little result”, launches Indecosa.

“Citizens are in the process of taking ownership of this new collection system,” underlines Michel Delpech. “We have already significantly reduced the tonnage of waste processed. This is an essential step for the Ouest Aveyron Community budget. There is a good chance that tomorrow, the State will support us less and that taxes on garbage will increase, as well as the cost of waste treatment. With this system we lower the tonnage and inevitably the costs. We hope to soon achieve a balanced budget for household waste.

“It’s unbearable that there is so much incivility”

“As we have all seen, incivility is increasing, illegal dumping is increasing, the terminals are saturated, waste is strewn on the ground, trash bags are piling up along the roads. In terms of organization, certain things need to be reviewed on the community of municipalities side,” adds Indecosa.

“It’s unbearable that there is so much incivility when we manage to make significant savings,” replies the president. “These are additional costs incurred. We are thinking about means of action.” A green brigade has been deployed and fines are planned for people who throw their waste on the road. The badge when opening the dumpster should be deployed from 2026.
