Sunday November 10, 2024, the general assembly of the Friends of Rex took place at the Veules-les-Roses Tennis Club (Seine-Maritime).

The association, with 85 members and an office made up of Diane Guidieri, president, Séverine Werba, vice-president, and Catherine Sauvage, secretary and treasurer, supported cinema activities in 2024 by helping to bring the room.

Programming remains the domain of Serge Fendrikoff and everything started very well when this structure was created last January: the projects launched by the cinema manager were well supported by the association.

Significant events

The Friends of the Rex immediately provided their support to the cinema by taking care of the invitations and the arrival of speakers, public communication as well as that to the press of the various events in addition to that carried out by the cinema.

The association covered the transport, accommodation and catering costs of the speakers for each event.

This cooperation got off to a flying start at the beginning of February with the arrival of Gilles Perret and his wife to present The Bertrand Farm.

This first collaboration was so successful that the room was quickly full and it was even necessary to organize two screenings.

Various other events followed, keeping their promises both in terms of their diversity and their quality.

Like the screening of the Bonnard film, Peter and Martha on February 10 with the presence of Édith Baudrand, film painter and actor coach, or that of the film They shot the Piano playerfollowed by the concert of the Rouen group Bossafinade.

An evening with Valérie Zenatti was made up of three moments: a meeting with the author at the Les Mondes de Zulma bookstore, then the screening of the film A Bottle in the Sea and a debate with the public.

This experience showed the interest in cooperation between the cinema and other actors in the village both on the diversity of the cultural offer and on sharing the costs of the event. The last event organized at the initiative of the Friends of the Rex was the exhibition “My cinema in painting” by Francesca Guidieri with her pastels inspired by film scenes.

Mediation planned

After several months of positive cooperation, dissensions appeared between the manager and the members of the association. And their goals were no longer shared.
It is with sadness and emotion that President Diane Guidieri announced the resignation of the three members of the Friends of the Rex office during the general assembly.

Once the surprise effect passed, the 17 members of the association expressed their desire to continue to support cinema.

The question then arose whether to maintain Les Amis du Rex with a new office, to dissolve the association or to merge with another association.

As the Ciné Objectif track was mentioned, Dominique and Marie-Claire, Florence who president of this association, described their objective: to organize events in order to continue the social link with the cinema in Veules, but also with the Alabaster coast .

It appeared that a meeting with Serge Fendrikoff was desirable. Four members of the Friends of the Rex offered to try to mediate as soon as possible with the manager of the cinema.

The idea is to find out whether the objectives of the members of the association are now compatible with those of the cinema programmer Rex. The Friends of Rex have shown their effectiveness in 2024 and its members wholeheartedly wish to continue this momentum.
