Two hours of walkouts are announced, Thursday November 14, 2024, on the GMD group sites. The call was launched by representatives of the inter-union, gathered on November 8 following a meeting with the leaders of the potential buyer of the automobile equipment manufacturer, the Montyon Capital investment fund owned by the billionaire Pierre- Édouard Stérin.
By this action, the unions intend “show the concern of employees about this sale”. Three demands are displayed: “Know the social and industrial side of Montyon Capital; denounce the 12% relocation to low-cost countries, announced in the newspaper Liberation by Pierre-Édouard Stérin; and oppose the loss of employment. »
In Indre, the GMD group employs more than 500 people across three sites: two Eurostyle Systems factories in Châteauroux (one on Boulevard d'Anvaux and the other on Allée des Sablons) which employ a total of 370 employees and the Eurocast foundry in Poinçonnet . “The walkouts of this Thursday, November 14 are only a first warning,” warns the inter-union which promises employees to “defend our jobs dearly”.
The unions point the finger at the two car manufacturers Stellantis and Renault, responsible according to them for the situation of the GMD group, “by no longer providing new parts to be manufactured in French sites, which causes unemployment, loss of turnover, and always asking for declines”. Locally, this drop in orders resulted in “30 days of partial activity at Eurostyle Systems since the beginning of the year”, explains Laurent Joly, CGT Eurostyle Systems delegate and secretary of the GMD group committee.
