Two religious buildings in financed by the Heritage Foundation

In Morhange and Phalsbourg, two religious buildings will be renovated thanks to national fundraising from the Heritage Foundation.

The Heritage Foundation unveiled this Tuesday the list of the first 100 beneficiaries of the national collection of donations for the religious heritage of villages. For this season, the foundation has mobilized 16.7 million euros. In this envelope, 6.6 million are directed to 100 “small Notre-Dames” in French villages, one month before the reopening of Notre-Dame de , the work of which was financed by donations. The national collection is in addition to the Heritage Loto, which will, for example, this year make it possible to save the “miners' canteen” at Carreau Wendel in .

For Moselle, we find the old synagogue of Phalsbourg, and the Protestant church of Morhange. The 100 selected places, among which we also find temples, chapels or Catholic churches, “are representative of different historical cults” and require “significant work, often urgently”. 61% of them are not protected as historic monuments and 55% are even closed to the public or endangered. Despite this collection, 5.4 million euros are still missing to cover the total financing need. Collections remain open on this link.

As a reminder, the reconstruction of part of Notre-Dame de Paris, affected by flames during a fire in 2019, is mainly financed by 225 million euros collected by the Heritage Foundation, via 236,000 donations of individuals, businesses, associations and communities. The cathedral will be reopened on December 8, 2024.
