“A very strong disturbance”… LFI deputies request the cancellation of the match

Kick-off will be given in just over forty-eight hours at the Stade de . Thursday evening, the French football team must meet Israel for the fifth day of the Nations League. In a very tense geopolitical context, the meeting will be under very close surveillance with the presence around and in the stadium of around 4,000 police officers and gendarmes and 1,600 security agents.

On the side of France Insoumise, we are calling for the pure and simple cancellation of the match. “We ask that the match which takes place on Thursday between France and Israel be canceled,” Mathilde Panot, president of the LFI group in the National Assembly, declared this Tuesday during a press conference, citing a risk of “very strong disturbance”.

Serious incidents last week in Amsterdam

At the beginning of November, LFI deputy Louis Boyard had already called for the cancellation to protest against “the policy of the Israeli government” and the war in Gaza. In response, the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau assured that the holding of this match was “a question of principle”.

This match comes a week after that between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel Aviv, which was followed by violence targeting Israeli supporters in the Dutch city. The Israeli authorities also called on supporters on Sunday not to go to the Stade de France this Thursday.
