A motorist flashed at 216 km/h and other surprises for the Gard gendarmes

If he was thinking of impressing the gallery or simply having fun for the wedding, it will have been short-lived… An individual leaves a wedding a little too happy and loses his license after a huge speeding violation.

A weekend loaded with fines

Monitoring several strategic axes, the gendarmes noted numerous speeding incidents between Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November. From the first day, 19 drivers were checked for excessive speed on the RD 6113, a road made even more dangerous by the wet weather conditions. Among the drivers sanctioned, one in particular had his license revoked for speeding. This was just a preview of the craziness to come.

Two speed records in one day

Sunday was marked by two notable arrests. First, a driver who, leaving a wedding, let himself be carried away by the festive atmosphere to the point of pushing the needle to 216 km/h on a road well below this limit. The second record goes to another motorist flashed at 173 km/h on a road limited to 110 km/h. That Sunday, three licenses were withdrawn, including two for offenses combining speeding and driving under drugs.

A heavy toll in sanctions

This weekend ultimately led to eight license withdrawals and four impoundments, a toll which demonstrates the need to reiterate the rules of caution. Especially since, according to the latest road safety report from September, the Gard department has already recorded 49 deaths on its roads since the start of the year. An alarming figure which nevertheless seems to do little to dissuade certain reckless drivers.
