A violent altercation broke out between Jean-Christophe Bouvier, the prefect of Martinique and Rodrigue Petitot, the president of the Rally for the Protection of Afro-Caribbean Peoples and Resources, at the prefectural residence in Didier in Fort-de-France this Monday evening (November 11).
A heated altercation between Jean-Christophe Bouvier, the prefect of Martinique, and Rodrigue Petitot, the president of the RPPRAC broke out this Monday evening (November 11). The facts were recorded live on the latter's social networks.
Members of the RPPRAC who wish to speak with François-Noël Buffet, the Minister of Overseas Territories, on an official visit to Martinique, went to the prefectural residence to request a meeting.
In the video, widely shared on social networks, we can see the prefect coming out of the house to chat with them on the steps. “We came to see the minister”says Rodrigue Petitot first.
“You won't see him tonight. Make a request. I haven't received any requests for a meeting”then responds the prefect of Martinique.
This is when the tone rises. The face-to-face between Jean-Christophe Bouvier and Rodrigue Petitot is increasingly tense. The representative of the Republic firmly asks him to “talk differently”.
After this heated exchange, the leaders of the RPPRAC were led out by the police present on the scene.
Did they have authorization to enter the residence? For the moment, we do not know how the RPPRAC delegation was able to access it.
