Subsidence: closure of Chemin Saint-Louis near Avenue des Hôtels

An additional obstacle is added near Avenue des Hôtels and the Quebec Bridge, an area already heavily affected by road work.

Since Monday afternoon, a preventive closure of Chemin Saint-Louis has been necessary due to a landslide that occurred on a private residential site located nearby. Firefighters attended the scene, but no injuries were reported.

However, the City of Quebec announces the closure of Chemin Saint-Louis in both directions, between avenue des Hôtels and avenue de Lavigerie, for an indefinite period.

According to the municipal administration, it is a “landslide and the collapse of a retaining wall in the gap in the construction site”.

At this location, long-term closures are already required for work to be carried out in the Avenue des Hôtels sector.

An emergency inspection is required before making a decision on the resumption of vehicle traffic.

Experts are on site to assess the situation. Motorists and pedestrians are invited to follow the signs in place to take alternative routes.

The site is also under pressure due to the ongoing reconstruction and redevelopment of the interchanges north of the Pierre-Laporte and Quebec bridges.

Complete closures of the Quebec Bridge are still planned for the month of November, during certain evenings and nights during the week, as well as certain weekends. On every occasion, episodes of congestion occur, especially when a collision or collision occurs on the Pierre-Laporte bridge.

This nerve center is located at the convergence point of the Duplessis (540) and Henri-IV (73) highways, Route 175 and several major municipal arteries.

Interventions include the reconstruction of the majority of infrastructure.

The work consists in particular of the complete transformation of avenue des Hôtels and the reconstruction of the roadway and ramps of route 175.

Work on phase 1 began in May 2023 and will continue until 2027.
