Work on the railway developments north of Toulouse should be completed because rail traffic resumes this Monday midday. But associations defending trees intended for felling remain mobilized.

Tension rose a notch during the night of Sunday November 10 to Monday November 11 near the Saint-Jory lock. The day ended peacefully with a consultation between elected officials and environmental defenders.

Victor Denouvion spoke with the environmental activists present on site: “I am for the LGV, he declared. “But, I had asked that the felling be postponed because I found that certain trees were far from the site footprint”.

The mayor also ensured that the century-old oak tree on the route would not be cut down. Everything seemed under control, when in the middle of the night around two in the morning, the cutting of trees resumed to everyone's surprise.

The two “squirrels”, still perched on the oak and on a plane tree destined for felling, immediately sounded the alarm. One of them even threatened to end his life if the police were to remove him from his tree, as shown in this video.

Dozens of oaks and plane trees have already been felled over the past two days. This Monday, there are only two trees still standing: the century-old oak and an old plane tree, occupied by environmental defenders.

The association “Friends of the Earth” had filed two interim applications before the Toulouse administrative court to suspend the cutting of several trees on this Bordeaux-Toulouse LGV construction site. The last one was rejected this Friday, November 8, allowing work to resume.

The “Friends of the Earth” association should make its statement via a press release during the day.
