COP29 opened in Baku, Azerbaijan, Monday November 11, a few days after the victory of climate skeptic Donald Trump in the presidential election in the United States. France, too, is not spared from the growth in public opinion of the questioning or even the negation of global warming. The World notes that it now represents between 35 to 43% of respondents in the various barometers carried out, compared to 20 to 32% in 2020.
“We actually see that there is a sort of rise in climate skepticism, exploited by many sowers of doubt within social networks or in certain media”explains on franceinfo Anne Bringault, coordinator of the Climate Action Network. She then adds: “There is only a minority in France of these people who consider that climate change does not exist. However, we have all seen very concrete signs such as the advance of the harvest date or the glaciers which decrease sharply in the Alps or elsewherers”.
How to explain climate skepticism? What if it's because of the scale of the work that needs to be done due to climate change across the world? For Anne Bringault, there is no doubt: “The real answer is to show that we can get there, there are solutions and above all they are accessible to everyone because if it is a problem that seems too important, we will have a tendency to put it aside and find others responsible.
