VIDEO. In Mayenne, this chapel pays homage to the Poilus with 150 plaques

The Saint-Trèche chapel in Saint-Jean-sur-Mayenne hosts 150 ex-votos: plaques paying tribute to the soldiers who died during the First World War. A place that can still be visited today.

It’s a chapel like no other. The Saint-Trèche chapel, located in Saint-Jean-sur-Mayenne (next to ), has a particularity: it accommodates 150 ex-votos, in this case plaques, which pay homage to soldiers who died during the war 14-18.

Deaths not only from Mayenne

Plaques on which we find the names of fighters from the commune, but also “from the rest of the department, from , from , from Morbihan…” reads Michel Alson, the president of the association Meeting the Past of Saint-Jean-sur-Mayenne.

A place once known

A chapel that can still be visited today, which enjoyed its small success at the time: Russian or Chinese soldiers came there to pay tribute to the soldiers, or even to leave donations there!
