In a gesture concretizing, once again, Moroccan-Spanish cooperation in the maritime sector, the Spanish company “Blanchadell Workshops” recently finalized the construction and delivery of an ultra-modern catamaran on behalf of the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH) of Morocco.
Part of the context of the consolidation of bilateral ties between Morocco and Spain, this project aims to increase research and innovation capacities in the fields of fishing and aquaculture, sectors of a major importance for the economy and ecosystem of both countries.
Named “ Aman », the 17 meter long catamaran is the result of a project won by Blanchadell Workshops during an international competition launched by the Moroccan government in 2023. This achievement is the company’s first export to Morocco and represents a crucial step forward, opening up unprecedented horizons for both countries in the maritime industries sector.
Intended to support the development of aquaculture, the catamaran Aman will be deployed in the Agadir region, where it will play a key role in the monitoring and management of fish breeding cages. This initiative is particularly important for the development of aquaculture in Morocco, a sector which is experiencing strong growth. The vessel will be used in particular for the breeding of two species: sea bass and sea bream, which benefit from strong demand on national and international markets.
In a statement to Hespress FR, Chadli Housni, fish breeder and producer, took us behind the scenes of bass breeding in Morocco. « The sea bass, imported from France at an embryonic stage of only 3 grams, are introduced into submerged cages, thus recreating their natural environment. A meticulous 20-month process ensues, where every detail is considered to ensure the well-being of the fish and the preservation of the ecosystem », he teaches us.
« Lhe diet is carefully crafted, including a combination of vegetable meal, fish meal and fish oil. This natural approach allows the fish to develop in optimal conditions, without compromising its health or environmental balance. adds the professional.
When the fish reach market size, the marketing process is carefully planned. “ To avoid any impact on the ecosystemhe specifies, the fish are caught carefully using nets. Slaughter, carried out by thermal shock, is a respectful method designed to minimize stress on the fish. Here, animal welfare is a priority, ensuring superior quality and an unrivaled taste experience for consumers ».
Thanks to the integration of advanced maritime technology Blanchadell Workshops in the Moroccan fishing sector, this marks a notable evolution towards modern and responsible fishing and aquaculture practices, in compliance with international standards. This initiative is also supported by Moroccan policies aimed at promoting strategic economic sectors in regions like Agadir, where the potential for aquaculture and fishing is booming.
Gabriel Rona, executive project director at Blanchadell Workshopsexpressed his pride in the completion and delivery of the catamaran. “This project represents a major milestone for our company. We have demonstrated our ability to design and build specialized vessels that meet the specific needs of our customers”, he announced.
That said, Rona also thanked the Moroccan government for its confidence in the company, and highlighted the desire to strengthen partnerships between Morocco and Spain, particularly in the maritime industries sector.
This catamaran project constitutes for Blanchadell Workshops a showcase of its expertise in the construction of technical and innovative ships, meeting the growing demands of the Moroccan market for advanced and sustainable maritime solutions.
Beyond its technical importance, the delivery of the catamaran Aman represents a significant step in economic cooperation between Morocco and Spain, strengthening bilateral investments in the fishing and aquaculture sector. This project also opens new prospects for attracting more foreign investment in the Moroccan maritime sector, thus contributing to job creation and stimulating economic growth in both countries.
