With nearly 20 kg collected during the first five weeks, the system is already a success and has prevented 70,200 cigarette butts thrown into public spaces from polluting rivers and oceans.

The municipality's objective is simple, “to encourage smokers to no longer throw their cigarette butts on the ground. cigarettes. They take more than ten years to decompose naturally and pollute our environment ».

With the help of the start-up from Oise, these waste follow a virtuous circle.

“The butts collected every five weeks are recycled thanks to an innovative process, which uses neither water nor toxic products. This is a world first. »

To do this, a neutral and natural solvent extracts the substances toxic and odors, until you obtain a clean fiber.

The latter is then transformed made of insulating material.

“It can be used in the building or for the padding of down jackets,” specifies the City.

And added: “So, let’s not relax our efforts and continue to do a good thing for the planet. »
